Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials report early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior political figure commented the attack left him without words and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on social media, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
