The buzz about the recent awards show has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This distinction implies that the team might be designing a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the modern wave of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs you can achieve if you're playing as a specific type of character with a unique decision path.
The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in multiple ways, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
