The Merseyside club Vows Not to Alter Forward-Thinking Philosophy Amid Current Struggles, Says Arne Slot

The Dutch manager has announced that the club's hierarchy agree with his assessment regarding the team's slump and he will not abandon their offensive approach in quest for a solution. The manager admitted that six defeats in seven games was not good enough ahead of Aston Villa's visit.

Growing Expectations Amid Challenging Phase

Liverpool's coach recognized the pressure was on before his altered lineup exited the Carabao Cup against the London club. However, he insisted that this pressure to arrest the slide is not coming from the club's ownership or executive leadership following a significant spending of approximately £450 million.

"Our views align," remarked the Liverpool boss, whose side will meet the Spanish giants in the continental tournament and play against the Citizens in the Premier League.

Player Depth Stays Unquestioned

Slot believes his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are all fit and fully prepared for the fixture list". He noted that the recent signings in talents including Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, who is expected to be sidelined again against Villa through physical problems, had left the club "in a strong situation for the short-term future and the years to come".

Team Cohesion Issues

When pressed on why his team were taking so long to gel, he responded: "You don't really help me. 'What are the reasons?' I provide reasons and people say I'm making justifications. I can come up with several explanations why we are not winning as much or losing as much as we do but, as I say every time, there are never enough excuses to have a performance streak as we had now."

  • Even if I could come up with multiple factors
  • When you are Liverpool you should not suffer defeats
  • In truth six losses from seven matches

Backline Performance

Only the Clarets (twenty-one) have faced more big chances from normal situations this season than Liverpool (19). The first-place team, Arsenal, have allowed just two. Yet Slot denies the defense has been too vulnerable and maintains there is no justification to abandon offensive philosophy for a cautious system after ten matches without a goalless performance.

"From my perspective we don't giving up numerous openings so I find no basis to alter our approach totally but we have to enhance in preventing goals," he stated.

Specific Instances

"Against Manchester United, how many openings did we give up? When playing Frankfurt when we were 3-1 up, we barely allowed a shot on target. In each fixture we played until now we haven't conceded a lot of chances. Not at all. We do allow a somewhat more than last season but that has to do with us being behind early so you take a bit more risk. But typically I don't feel that our issue is that we allow too many opportunities. Our challenge is we don't score the opportunities we generate."
