This New Horror Film Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

We present a test for long-term couples who enjoy horror films: Get comfortable with your significant other and watch Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. At first glance, it might appear like standard biological terror, but inside Together resides a profound meditation about the ways we decide to love one another.

An Introductory Film Delving into The Nuances of Love

Together represents the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It showcases actors Alison Brie and Dave Franco as Millie and Tim, an unmarried couple that have remained a couple for a decade. Having wed in reality in 2017, the actors contribute a unique chemistry to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a committed partnership.

The narrative commences when Millie and Tim transition from the big city to the countryside for Millie’s job. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, of course, but that’s mostly where the tropes cease. Together evolves into as much a examination of mental states of the couple's dynamic as it is a film about physical terror.

An Otherworldly Trigger

While hiking near their country house, a storm hits, and the protagonists fall into an hole in the earth. After spending the night there and managing to escape, a strange force starts to affect the duo. This force creates a supernatural closeness between them that goes well past simple connection.

The whole movie is a methodically building horror experience, blending elements of hallucinatory nightmares, unsettling (but not excessively graphic) biological grotesqueries, and surprisingly comedic dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something disturbing). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components neatly and wraps them up in a gradually swelling aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is solely the performances of its stars, and they masterfully render numerous complexities to the characters’ relationship. Millie's sense of self and sense of connection is waning due to a emotional and physical gap. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his reluctance to pursue anything but his struggling artistic pursuits slowly bubbles to the surface.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve relocated rural and removed from his social circle. He dreads the notion of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in his partner. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he lacks a driver's license and is dependent on Millie for getting around.

The director's cleverest decision in this movie never makes one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

Tim and Millie grapple with the sort of issues that come with any relationship a decade in. Fundamentally, they continue to care for one another. They find humor with each other, comfort one another, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the otherworldly presence in Together represent these anxieties of codependency and totally devoting oneself to a partner, the allegory does not come across as clumsy or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes present a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the frights and the fights serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which remains unspoiled, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. It has been said that single viewers have seen the movie as a strong argument for remaining unattached. On the other hand, certain partners who were in conflict found that the film ended up guiding them to make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own response could act as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the finale plant a sense of discomfort and fear, or a positive outlook on love? Will you identify in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply look at your partner and utter, “I understand that choice”?

No matter your reaction, Together is an test you can experience today.

Together is streaming on Hulu as of this moment.
