TikTok Provides The Community Control to Limit AI-Generated Videos in Their Feeds

The platform is rolling out a fresh option that permits them to cut down on the quantity of AI-created media appearing in their timelines. This initiative comes as the company revealed that it presently contains more than 1 bn AI videos.

Pilot Phase and Launch

This change is undergoing trials over the coming weeks before a global launch. This advancement comes amid a surge in content created by AI, spurred by new AI video creators.

AI Proliferation Online

Recent reports that almost a tenth of the fastest-growing video streams on a popular video site exclusively feature content made by AI. A large amount of this content is considered low-quality AI content, a label for substandard, bulk-generated content that is frequently absurd or dreamlike.

Our research shows that a lot of users like content created using AI tools, from digital art to science explainers, and we want to give people the ability to see more or less of that, based on their own choices,” commented a spokesperson.

AI on the Platform

The service announced that there are currently over a billion videos on its service identified as made with AI. In total, over 100 m videos are added to the platform daily, making clips made by AI a relatively small part of its complete catalog.

User Control Features

Viewers will be in a position to decrease or raise the amount of AI content they see by accessing the content preference option in the app and choosing AI-made media. Further subjects that currently be adjusted under the tool cover current affairs, clothing, aesthetics, and dance.

AI Disclosure Rules

Its rules oblige creators to identify “realistic” artificially created content, and it bans malicious deepfakes of public figures or critical incidents. Any realistic artificial content that is unmarked can be removed under its terms of service.

Additionally, the app will from now on add an artificially created tag to content produced via its proprietary AI systems, or flagged by an cross-platform project for identifying AI-generated material. This measure is designed to help prevent users from attempting to bypass the tagging system.

Responsible AI Funding

The platform is also establishing a two million dollar educational fund for professionals and institutions to create learning resources about ethical AI use. This project will assist charitable organizations dedicated to training programming and robotics.

Moderation Strategy

TikTok has justified its moderation strategy, amid discussion over proposals to lay off a large number of review team members in the United Kingdom. It is planning to eliminate hundreds of positions in its trust and safety team in the UK capital, with labor groups and internet security professionals raising concerns that humans are being replaced by AI moderation.

A senior executive stated that human moderation would still have a role, but AI can protect employees by eliminating the most harmful content before it gets reviewed by people. The platform stated a significant reduction in shocking and graphic content handled by safety staff over the previous year due to the use of its machine learning processes.

“We think that it’s essential to integrate people and machines to ensure user safety,” the official commented. “We’ll have humans as involved in the system, but we additionally believe it’s very important to minimize viewing of dangerous material as rapidly, which is where a lot of the machine support is really helping us work at speed.”
